Mumbai-IX, received Prestigious OIX-1 Certification

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India – 25 September 2017 – Mumbai IX and Open-IX Association are pleased to announce that the Mumbai Internet eXchange (Mumbai-IX) has received OIX-1 certification from the Open-IX Association (OIX).

Defining Standards for the Open-IX Association

The Open-IX Association is a 501(c)(6) non-profit industry association formed to promote more transparent data centre interconnection and the proliferation of Internet exchanges.  Open-IX seeks to effect its mission through the development of standards and certification of entities which meet those standards. Open-IX is organized and operated by volunteers representing various entities and stakeholders with a common goal: increasing the reliability, resiliency and availability of interconnection.  Since its establishment in 2013, OIX has certified 10 Internet eXchange Points (IXPs) and 23 data centres (DCs).  Final certification was received on 21 September 2017.

Eli Scher, Vice Chair of OIX, remarks, “Open-IX is pleased to grant OIX-1 certification to Mumbai -IX Internet exchange in India.  We are excited to see better standards for data center interconnection and Internet exchanges continuously being adopted within the key and high growth markets across the globe.”

Mumbai-IX is a proud supporter of OIX and supports fair, reasonable and transparent interconnections and open peering. The OIX-1 Internet exchange certification defines standards for Internet exchanges like Mumbai-IX’s mission-critical interconnection platform.

Mumbai-IX, CEO, Nikhil Rathi said, “Peering is what promotes the efficiency of the Internet as it enables connected networks to deliver cost-effective, optimized and speedy Internet services to end-users. We can say if no PEERING, no INTERNET. Achieving OIX-1 certification enables us to demonstrate our steadfast commitment to supporting an open and robust set of standards that further promote these efficiencies.

We are happy to become the first OIX-1 Certified Internet eXchange in Asia  which is hosted within an  OIX-2 Certified data center – Web Werks in Mumbai.

Mumbai-IX – the Mumbai Internet Exchange

Founded on the 15th August 2014, Mumbai-IX is an Internet eXchange Point (IXP) in Mumbai, India that interconnects more than 74 members, making it one of the largest Internet eXchanges in India. The IXP is a tool for network providers to connect their networks and exchange IP traffic, promoting easy peering between different networks such as content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDN), telecommunications, Internet Service Providers (ISP), DNS root servers, and many more. Mumbai-IX IXP eases the path for network providers to exchange IP traffic between peering members by offering a common “meet me” point that enables direct interconnection. Mumbai-IX aim to help peering networks connect effectively in order to further improve network performance and reduce latency. At Mumbai-IX, we believe in making interconnection more affordable and streamlined and thus offer quality-oriented services that can assist our peering member to perform optimally. Our Peering participants includes CDN Players, DNS Root Servers, Content Providers, Video Streaming Services, Social Media and Internet Service providers, etc.
